    Pajottenland Follow the Pede River out of Brussels into nature and see a watermill and castle! This full-day, intermediate hike will take advantage of the autumn weather and colors in Pajottenland. It will be led by Wessel Kooyman of the Expat Hiking Brussels Meet-up Group. All proceeds will go to Serve the City to help send underprivileged children to the zoo for a day. 15 EUR/person. Adults only.Just take tram 81 to the end of the line to stop Marius Renard and walk 20 minutes to cows. The hike will end at train station Ternat, where we take the train back to Brussels. You'll need a one way trip ticket from Ternat to Brussels. She was Dean and Professor for Organisation, Human Resource Management and General Management at the Technical University Cottbus, Germany. She received her diploma in Industrial Engineering in 1994 and her PhD in Economics in 1999. From1995 until 1999. Christiane was a Research Associate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research. She received her postdoctoral lecture qualification in 2005. Her areas of interest include demographical change, service innovation, innovation strategies, intellectual property, and innovation processes. Christine now works as Policy Officer for Science and Culture at the Representation of the Land Brandenburg to the EU.

  • “A resilient and sustainable EU – how can the European Court of Auditors contribute?” by Helga Berger

    Stanhope Hotel Helga Berger has been the Austrian Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) since 2020. She started in Chamber V (Financing and Administration of the Union), where she was responsible for the chapter of the annual report on financial management and the special report "Protecting the EU budget - Better use of blacklists needed". In January 2022, she moved to Chamber II (Investment for Cohesion, Growth and Inclusion). There she was responsible for the chapter of the annual report on cohesion, resilience and value, as well as working on a review of the regularity of cohesion spending. In December 2023, the ECA published the special report "Public procurement in the EU - Less competition for contracts awarded for works, goods and services in the 10 years up to 2021", for which Helga Berger was rapporteur. In March 2024, she took over as Chair of the Quality Control Committee of the European Court of Auditors and is Chair of the international Panel for Standard Setting of all Supreme Audit Institutions worldwide (PSC). Prior to this, the Carinthian-born lawyer worked as Director General Budget at the Austrian Ministry of Finance, at the Austrian Court of Auditors and as a criminal judge. She has more than 20 years of professional experience in the areas of planning, implementation and control of public finances.

Henna Virkkunen is tasked with combating the increasingly complex security threats facing the EU, whilst at the same time strengthening our external borders and our internal security. This goes hand in hand with her responsibility to ensure our freedoms, justice and democracy are strengthened too. Virkkunen is also responsible for the Digital and Frontier Technologies portfolio. This entails leading Europe’s efforts in shaping a competitive, resilient and inclusive digital future and maintaining or attaining leadership in strategic digital technologies.Previously Werner Stengg worked as a member of Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager’s Cabinet. Before that he was Head of Unit in various DGs since 2006, responsible for E-commerce and online platforms, for postal and public interest services, and for better regulation and economic analysis. His experience within the European Institutions also includes positions in DG Budget, in DG Enterprise, and the European Council of Ministers. He holds a doctorate in commerce and economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Originally from Braga in Portugal, she moved to Belgium 5 years ago and works professionally as a Commercial Learning and Development Specialist. Her employer – Hologic is a leading company specialised in health devices for women, such as mammography equipment. Her journey took a turn after a volunteer experience in Cabo Verde where she met many women who had never visited a gynecologist and lacked basic health education. Inspired to address this healthcare gap, she founded Cuida d’bo, which aims to improve access to essential health care and health education for women in Cape Verde (https://cuidadbo.org/).
