Local Rotary Club to Raise Money for Charity During Bright Brussels

BRUSSELS — The annual Bright Brussels light show in February will be a bit brighter this year with a local Rotary club serving up drinks for the first time as a fundraiser for a Brussels-based charity. The magical spectacle by Visit Brussels displays more than 20 outdoor light installations by artists from all over the world.

On Thursday to Sunday, 13-16 Feb. 2025 from 6:30 to 11 pm, a refreshment chalet will be hosted by Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen in the park across from the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula. It will sell drinks to fundraise for Serve the City Brussels, which helps the elderly, homeless, children in need, people with disabilities, victims of abuse, and asylum seekers and refugees. All proceeds will go to this non-profit charity.

“We have supported Serve the City Brussels for the last four years and aim to top all of our previous donations through this popular event,” says Tibor Scharf, president of Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen. “Our members look forward to serving as many Bright Brussels visitors as possible to help Serve the City offer even more to the community.”

“"This partnership with Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen shows how working together can make a real difference, ” adds Nathan Torrini, executive director, Serve the City Brussels. “The money raised will go towards a new e-cargo bike that will help us support more people in need across Brussels in a faster and more sustainable way. We truly appreciate the Rotary club’s ongoing support and commitment to our mission."

Bright Brussels attracts about a half million visitors each year according to Visit Brussels. This year, it will have two routes: Royal and European. They will be easily accessible and each light installation will only be a small walk from the next. The Royal route, where the cathedral is located, will be a circular 4.5 km and the European route will be 3 km from Cinquantenaire Park to Place du Luxembourg. Maps of both will be available online and on-site.

The central location of the Rotary Brussels Cantersteen chalet in front of the cathedral, which will display a light show, will be easy to find. Visit Brussels will host its own refreshment chalet in Cinquantenaire Park.

In addition to the illuminations, Bright Brussels will include lighted murals, museum activities, guided tours, a Bright Market, and a light parade.
