Markus Beyrer (Director General of BusinessEurope) on “Reboot Europe – from communication to action”

Markus J. Beyrer has been Director General of BusinessEurope since 2013. Prior to this he held the positions of CEO of the Austrian Industry Holding ÖIAG, Director General of the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV) and Director for Economic Affairs of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Before this Mr Beyrer served as Chief Economic Advisor to the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel. In the 1990s he worked on Austria’s accession to the European Union and the integration of Austria into the European Single Market (at the Austrian Permanent Representation to the European Union and the European Commission). In addition to his executive positions, Mr Beyrer held a number of non-executive board functions in various Austrian industrial companies and was a member of the non-executive board of the Austrian Central Bank. Mr Beyrer read law and Commercial Sciences in Vienna, graduating in Law at the University of Vienna. Later he completed postgraduate studies in European law at the Danube University in Krems (Austria) and the Stanford Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Mr Beyrer is married with two children.

Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, officially Georgios Chatzimarkakis is a German politician of Greek descent, former Member of the European Parliament with the Free Democratic Party of Germany (part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe). He was a 2014 European Parliament candidate for the newly formed party Greek European Citizens of Greece. He currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of the European Hydrogen Association “Hydrogen Europe”.ydrogen Europe (formerly known as NEW-IG) is an industry association representing almost 100 companies, both large and SMEs, working to promote hydrogen and fuel cells energy. The association partners with the European Commission and the research community in the public-private partnership Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) to accelerate the market introduction of these clean technologies in the energy and transport sectors.

He will also discuss the integration of the e-cargo bike that our club is purchasing for his organization to start a sustainable transportation fleet. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Serve the City before our joint reception at its office the evening of our Change of Arms.

With the Kleine Zeitung for over 40 years and still not enough. Started as a permanent freelancer in the “crime department” of the local editorial office, then founding editor of regionalization, setting up the Hartberg regional office as a model for all subsequent external editorial offices in Styria and Carinthia. Branch manager in Hartberg and later in Weiz, deputy head of department and then regional manager for Styria for a decade. Then things really took off: Head of Austria, deputy head of the news department and then desk manager/chief of service for print and online. From there, the leap into the distance: EU correspondent in Brussels since 2018.
